Election Reflections

As Elizabeth already said....

BARACK OBAMA AND JOE BIDEN

ARE NOW THE NEW PRESIDENT AND VP OF THE USofA!!!!!!!

Alright so now you've been told that twice...wait...more than twice, unless you live in a nut shell and have no connection to society at all.

Anyway, our last blog assignment was to post our reflections and thought on the election so here goes....

I am more unsatisfied with the turnout of the election that I am satisfied.
I think that McCain had better ideas than Obama on some very important issues that might concern Americans today. My biggest issue with Obama was that he wanted to pull the troops out of Iraq. Even though he planned on slowly pulling them out over a course of over a year, I still don't think that it was a good idea. Also, I don't think that McCain is exactly perfect in his handling of it either. McCain supported the war right from the start and I don't think that starting the war was the right thing yo do either. I think that I would have to go with McCain on this one more than I would Obama. This is Bush's mess, not McCain and I think that McCain is doing the right thing. Another important issue that both candidates were asked to share views on was the environment and energy. McCain wants to open multiply nuclear power plants and drill off shore more even though its prohibited and Obama wants to make a $150 Billion investment in a clean energy system. He actually compared it to the NASA program in the 1960's. I think that I would definitely go with Obama on this one.
Some issues I agree more with McCain than I do Obama and then there are others that I would side with Obama more than McCain.
As far as the electoral college system goes, I think that we should keep it going strong. The only part of it that I think should be changed is that I think that your individual vote should count more than it does with the electoral college. I do think however, that it is a pretty strong system and there is a reason that it has been effective for so long. It makes it easier to see who won which states faster and more effectively. I think that the "winner takes all" rule works well in most cases too. It makes it so that you can tell which candidate was liked more in the state than the other. This also kind of defeats the whole "your vote counts" thing that they all tell us. Because of the "winner takes all" rule sometimes if the other candidate from who you voted for wins the state than he/she would get all the votes in that state. That sort of defeats the whole 'you vote counts' like i said before.
On Monday, in class, we were all given a map and had to color it red and blue according to how we thought that electoral votes would play out. The only state that I guessed wrong was Indiana. I gave McCain the vote in Indiana and Obama ended up getting the voted there as well as many others in that region of the country.
Also considering the gallup polls that Elizabeth and I posted. I think that they effected my prediction about who would win the election this year a significant amount. I noticed towards the ending months before the election that Obama was more popular than McCain with most of the U.S. citizens and that only supported my predictions more.
Other things that I think about the election are that Obama has never lead anything before. McCain was elected in to the House of Representatives in 1982 and has been in the Armed Forces since he was old enough to join. McCain was was elected to the Senate in 1986. In 2004 he was re-elected Senator with 77% of the vote. He also has multiple honors from the Armed Forces and has had much more experience than Obama in the government and commitment and serving our country.

Reflection on Presidential Election

Barack Obama has won the race and is now the president- elect, with running mate Joe Biden who is vice presidential- elect.
I am not quite satisfied with the results of this years presidential election. I believe that John McCain had better ideas for our country on health care, the economy, taxes and the environment. The things that Barack Obama said he would do as president are not all logical. His tax plan will not work with the things that he plans to do with the country, he has a lot of ideas but he will most certainly have to raise taxes to fulfill all of these plans that he has. I think that it was John McCain's time to be president of the United States of America.
After seeing what went on in the election last night I still believe that we should get rid of the electoral college. It should go because if you voted for John McCain in this election in Massachusetts you may feel like your vote didn't count. If you get rid of the electoral college and make the popular vote count, then everyone will feel like their vote counted and made a difference in the U.S. government. We should have the popular vote count more than the electoral vote, let the people decide who they want their president to be.
On my prediction on Monday compared to the real results of last night's (November 4th) election I had gotten four of the states wrong. I predicted that John McCain would win New Hampshire, Indiana, Colorado and Virginia, but it turned out that Barack Obama had won all of those states. I thought for sure that McCain would win Indiana, as of 9:30 last night he had been winning that state, but in the end he had lost it. I'm not sure how though because when I checked John McCain had one almost all areas of Indiana, but Obama must have come from behind! Oh my! I was sort of close in my predictions of which presidential candidate would win each state.
My Gallup Poll research did not really influence my prediction, but it did a little bit. I did Gallup Polls on Age and Gender among Whites. I saw that on both of these Gallup Polls John McCain started pretty close if not beating Barack Obama. As time went on though Barack Obama was beating John McCain on both of these polls. It showed me that Obama had a better chance of winning, so it influenced me a little bit to give Senator Obama more states to win. Since it was only those two Gallup Polls though I gave McCain some more states than he actually won, I was wrong in that department though. My Gallup Poll research influenced me a little bit on how to predict who won what state.

McCain on Darfur Genocide

This is what Senator John McCain thinks that the U.S.ofA would do for the people of Darfur if he was to be elected as president.

John McCain wants to join a peace keeping democracy that would stop the genocide in Darfur. He wants to help to provide financial assistance and whatever other types of assistance that he can to these peace keeping societies. McCain wants to join up with that type of group, the kind of people that never want to see this happen again, the kind of people that value human rights. He thinks that we need to get other countries to help us to stop what's happening in Darfur.

McCain is almost blaming blaming China for the U.S. not helping to stop the Genocide in this video. He is saying that the Chinese people are helping the Sudanese government and are the ones that are stopping us from hitting ground in Darfur. McCain is saying that the Chinese people are the reason that we haven't helped enough yet.

He says that we will be the country that will step in and help even is the other European countries like Russia and China wont help us.

McCain want to help the people in Darfur to get back the rights that he believes are inalienable and should not have been taken away the way that they were.

Senator McCain also has no idea how he will negotiate with the Sudanese Government. He knows that they will lie, break agreements that were made, he has also helped, supported and supplied most of the Janjaweed.

He believes that America is the country to step in and lead and be the first to put our plans to action in Darfur. He believes that over time we will be the ones that end the genocide in Darfur.
