Obama on Darfur Genocide

This was not an assignment for the Social Studies blog, but its something that would really impact my vote because its something that I really care about.

This is video where Obama talks about what he plans to do for the people that are victims of the genocide in Darfur.

If you don't know what that is than you can go to the website and read about it because it would take me all too long to tell you about it in this post. Its pretty much the government in darfur don't want to help them and in there most desperate time of need there government only sent people in to attack them. They were starving and needed help desperately so they rebelled against there government for not helping them and the government responded to the act by rampaging through their villages and killing and raping and torturing them relentlessly. This all started in February of 2003. The people that are causing this are known as the Janjaweed.

That might have cleared up your understanding a little bit, but that was a very vague description. I will post some links on the bottom of this post where you can learn more and help.

ANYWAYYYYYYY back to what Obama thinks.

Senator Obama wants to get people in Sudan to help the people in Darfur. He thinks that the Americans are the most powerful country in the world and we should be the people to help. He also said that the Americans need to keep there word, that we cant say that we will help and then not. Also, Obama says that all of the genocides are "a stain on all of us". He says it in a way that could imply that he feels bad, but he doesn't really plan on doing anything. He says it like it's sad, but he cant do anything. He wants top put a protective force in Darfur and thinks that we need to get in there and stop this. Obama claims to be very knowledgeable about the topics and also passionate. He knows about the commitment that this will take and he is ready to take it on.

Obama doesn't really specify what exactly he plans to in Darfur, only that he will help and that he feels bad about it. Obama could have been a little bit more specific instead of just saying that he is glad that people are involved in it and that we want to help. I think that Obama could really make a difference in Darfur if he stuck to what he said about commitment in what the Americans do.
